Surround Sound in Vista

Unless the app has its own option in one of its menu to enable 5.1 surround sound, it doesn't work. E.g. In iTunes or Media Player only the left and right speaker work but Compnay of Heroes all 5 do.

I'm using the on board sound on a IN9 32X-MAX, and a Creative Inspire SBS560 speakers.
