I have an hp pavilion 503n.
this computer has never given me any problems whatsoever.
i sold this computer recently to a friend,
and i had it all clean and ready to go, and i just had to put in a dvd-rw drive.
i unplugged the computer, put the drive in, and when i tried to boot back up, the system would not boot. all fans started, power light came on, and both cd and dvd drive read lights came on as usual, but no video signal, and the hard drive LED never lit up. what should i do?

Is the cd/dvd drive on an IDE channel with the hard drive? Check the jumpers on both the hdd and the optical.

the HDD and dvd drive are seperate. i already tried rewiring everything to make sure.

oh.. and i'm supposed to have this computer to him TODAY.

Maybe the "old" power supply just can't run everything and the new CD/DVD combo burner. Will the computer operate with the combo burner removed?

alright so i found the problem. somehow the power surged and fried the mobo.
my solution: take bunches of spare parts and build him a different computer.
thanks for your help.
