The Sims 2 Direct X error

  1. The Sims 2 used to work find until I installed the most recent expansion packs, now when I attempt to run the Sims 2 it always comes up with this error:

"Failed to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapters in this system!

Please make sure you have a DirectX 9 Compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest manufacturer provided driver.

    The application will now terminate..."

    My computer has:

    Windows Vista Home Premium
    DirectX 10
    Nvidia GeForce 8800GT 512mb
    3gb Ram
    AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+

I have tried installing the latest patch, updating my graphics card's drivers, made sure directdraw acceleration, direct3d acceleration, and AGP Texture acceleration are all enabled, and tried reinstalling the Sims 2, but it still always comes up with that same error message. All of my games except this work fine and have never had an error message like this. Does anyone have any idea how to get this working?
