Those that spent the weekend soaking in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate are well aware of a new tool – a wrist-mounted rope launcher – that delivers a whole new element of mobility to the series. It’s similar to the grappling hook used by Batman in the Arkham games.

To help promote the new game (and the nifty rope launcher), Ubisoft enlisted the help of British maker Colin Furze to create a real-life version of the in-game accessory (as well as a working version of the signature hidden blade).

The CO2-powered rope launcher is a bit bulkier than its in-game counterpart and not all that practical but that’s alright considering it’s fully functional. For those curious, Furze has published two additional videos detailing exactly how he built the gadget. Enjoy!

It'll be sometime in the 22nd century before we can build these devices to be as obscure and efficient as they are in the games.
The guy in the video is a real McGyver though.

Both of them can be made more concealable and efficient right now-it's just impractical to do so (materials and engineering costs). Though, the real problem I see is with the rope launcher. Only about 10% of the population (if that) has the upper body strength to use the AC rope launcher as portrayed in the game without having their shoulder dislocated and ligaments torn.

With the amount of grappling done in the game, I very much doubt the human body could stand up to rigors of it, but these characters are real hero's you know, no mere mortals.

I'm pretty impressed that crazy Colin made it to techspot, this guy has some awesomely entertaining videos.
