Hi all i'm looking for advice on upgrading of my pc im using a web site www.komplett.ie to get the hardware. what i want to basicly know is

this pc will be mainly for playing on-line games. im willing to spend about 1200 euro so on that whats the best hardware i could buy. :bounce:
Currently i have a dell which i would never buy again as i wanted to upgrade my motherboard and processor they were not one bit helpfull

First of all, lesson learned about buying dells..
Second of all, do you want to buy a whole new pc or just upgrade certain parts?
Third of all, what kind of applications do you do? (Give me a few game examples)
And fourth of all, do you know how to build a PC? (judging on this quote "which i dont know what that meens" I'm guessing not.)

This would be a good gaming system:

99 euro
Asus A8N-E, nForce4 Ultra, Socket-939, ATX, S-ATA, GbLAN, Sound, PCI-Ex16

case/psu 129 euro

Floppy drive 10 euro
Sony Floppy Drive, 3,5" 1,44MB Black Floppy Drive Internal

DVD/CD drive 45.50 euro
NEC DVD±RW burner, ND-3550A, 16x, Dual, Black OEM
http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=314090&cks=PRL

Graphics card: 169 euro
XFX GeForce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3, PCI-Express,Tv-Out, Dual-DVI, Retail
http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=306714&cks=PRL

or if you have the bucks

CPU 235 euro
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHz Socket 939, 1MB, BOXED w/fan
http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=309484&cks=PRL

Note: the difference between the two video cards I link above is HUGE for gaming, especially for newer games. HUGE.

Total cost of parts above:

912 euro with the low end graphics card
1143 euros with the high end graphics card

If you are interested in gaming I would also go with an Athlon. The 3700+ linked above is a great choice but you could also go with an Athlon 3000+ Venice as you could get it for about 100 euro less and could spend it elsewhere like on a graphics card for example which would increase your framerate in games more so than the extra speed of the cpu. If I had that much to spend on a system I would try to get a Geforce 7800 series graphics card.

AMD is the only real choice

why anyone would fall for the old mhz myth is a mystery..AMD slaughters intel on any benchmark you care to name...gaming or not...usually cheaper too,,i built 32 custom pcs for customers in the last 2 years and i wouldn't even consider anything else for cpu..had a lot better luck overclocking my own machines too.

Real? Read http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/11/21/the_mother_of_all_cpu_charts_2005/
Amd seems to be raising prices, 3200+ and 630 are same price now, and what? Close in games? Intel wins some losses some in benchmarks.

I say 4800 X2's are clear winners in benchies, FX-57 second. But the down-to-earth cpus are real close. I can biuld a total system and overclock close to thier performance for less than that out-of-this world price tag. My 4ghz 530j (w/stock Intel cooler) would top some of those charts. My 2.6ghz Venice 3200+ is still middle-ground.

"REAL" gaming performance comes from GPU anyway.

On reply to some of your questions which is very much appreciated.
No i dont know much about pc but am reading a book at the moment about upgrading.
games i'm playing at the moment are battlefield 2, quake 4 and half life 2 and i play mostly on line.
I dont want to buy a whole pc as i have 2 hard drives totaling 600gb a new dvdrw, 20inch lcd and a new gaming keyboard and mouse. i have two 512 memory sticks but i think they will be left and i can get two 1024 or 2048
:approve: :)
