United States falls to 31st place in global broadband speed list

US is too big and too full of greedy corporations trying to produce the highest possible income at the lowest possible cost, regardless of the welfare of consumers.

Obama said he would enforce a nation wide broadband policy when he first took office. I have seen no sign of that all these years later.

Select areas of the country have great ISPs, while others are still on dial-up. I myself am fortunate enough to live in an area with one (100/35 for $60/mo currently) and have had fast internet access for many years, but some people, including friends who live not that far away, have far lower speeds and pay premium price for them (ie; 20/2 for $60/mo).

Considering how poor this country is, I doubt anything will improve in the next presidential term.

This country is just falling deeper and deeper into atrocity. I really don't plan to live here in the future.

My first several years were on free dial up & I never complained. I was/am just blessed to have a computer & internet.

So were mine.. back when AOL was the main way to use the internet and the main OS was Windows 3.1 and then 95. Toggled back and forth between AOL and some free intrusive slow ad-based crap depending on how much money we had at the time (not much). Grandparents had cable (700KB/s!) and it was amazing to visit them. Then I was sad when we came home to my dial-up and severely restrictive ability to play multiplayer games.

Boy, just look for far we've come.

It's nearly 2014, life's gone so digital; no one should be using less than 30/5 connections in present time (Recommended for Netflix/cloud backups). Hell, Microsoft deemed it time to do always online, but of course massive backlash stopped that in its tracks.

Seeing how much of the world is stuck in the past is depressing. There's still starvation issues in other countries with people basically living in shacks; it's mindblowing to think about how far some countries have come whereas others look like they haven't advanced beyond the 1700's.

Time to move to Hong Kong.
No thanks. My brother and his family lived in Hong Kong for 2 years. Incredibly crowded, polluted, filthy, with non-potable water that is turned off for hours each day....have to keep buckets of water in the bathtub, to flush the toilet. Speaking of toilets, the entire bay at Kowloon is one giant Toilet, which flushes with each change of the tide. No amount of money could entice me to live there.
