Unknown trouble, please help

This morning i started up my computer, to see nothing on my screen. None of the startup sounds came until an hour later, but it was my programs starting up, not the windows sounds. It is not my moniter, I tried my playstaion 3 on it. I also ran my ps3 audio thru my computer and that also worked. My hard drive is spinning, I can tell from the vibrations. I am writing this from my phone, please help.

Video graphics card or video graphics driver has gone bad.

A hard drive can keep on spinning long after it goes bad.

How do you know that your programs started up, if you cannot see them, nor hear them?

Skype makes a sound when it starts. And what am I supposed to do?

Have you tried it on an external monitor?

Do you get the same thing happening, if so then I would follow raybay's suggestion of looking at video. If not then it could be an LCD fault, or possibly the inverter board.
