Upgrading from 2000 to XP

  1. I got a buddy who's computer is messed up with viruses and is currently running 2000, i was wondering (as im not a seasoned pro with OSs) if i can upgrade to XP without loosing any data. i figure it cant be that simple but i just wanted to make sure

    Well if there's a virus and you really aren't tech crazy then you need a fresh copy of windows on there.

    i am quite tech savy, just not well seasoned in reformatting. ive only ever done it twice. successfully at that, but only twice.

    "Not losing data" also means you won't be losing any of the viruses there, duh :)

    Just copy the documents you need and format.

    I recommend reformatting as well. If virus programs didn't work, then backing up your most precious data files and reformatting is the next best thing.
