I wonder how people lose laptops that a company bought for internall use only? The country were i'm from usually uses this simple method: if you lose it, you pay the damage (every penny)

Why not just use desktops for work done inside company premises ? It would be that much harder to lose a full-size desktop compared to a laptop. Whoever loses his or her issued PC should pay for it. It's part of each worker's responsibility.

Maybe if companies treasured their workers more and treated them with respect, the workers would be much more Conscious about their companies hardware. I know I never thought about stealing hard drives or laptops when I worked for a company that showed me it appreciated my work and sacrifice. As for the other companies..well I never stole anything; but I only half-heartedly investigated when laptops, cpus, hard drives, mice, monitors and etc went missing.

I don't understand how so many laptops are lost or just disappear. I understand if a laptop is stolen... but how do you just lose a laptop?
  11. The obvious implication is that a significant number of laptops are simply kept by employees who conveniently say that it was stolen or lost.
