Or if this is immediately following an install of Kaspersky I'd uninstall and use another AV solution.

Most AV software has a scheduler ...check that you have set your Kaspersky to scan at times when you leave your PC on and don't use it. That also means you should disable sleep and hibernation so that these scans can complete.

I suspect the AV is not getting a chance to scan the drive so it is trying to do it when you are trying to use it too.
