USB shows as unknown device in xp but not in linux

    hai pals
    my usb drive is not working.
    I have both os ubuntu and windowsxp.
    my pendrive is not working in windows.
    It's been recognised as unknown device
    in windows xp.but it works finely in ubuntu (linux)
    can any tell me a way so that I can fix my problem
    please

    In XP autoplay for CD drives may affect USB device detection... See if autoplay is turned off or on. Toggle it, and see if the USB device is detected
