  1. Hi

I have a small network of 10 computers. 8 are XP ( I love XP:) 2 are Vista (I do not love Vista).

They all print to a printer on a networked ME machine.(don't ask)

The printer on the 2 Vista machines was tricky to set-up. I did not use add network printer like we did with XP. I had to add a local printer and with some fanagling under ports the ports for the network printer shows up at the bottom. I print a test page - works great.

I re-boot and the printer on both Vista machines now says Offline and will not go Online. The only way to fix it is to re-install the darn thing.

    Help!

    Colleen

sounds like an all-too-much-to-be-expected Vista bug. Contact MS and they will probably tell you they dont support XP to ME. Your eventual solution is likely to be to upgrade the ME machine. Even to just Win2K will probably solve it, and you ought to be able to pick up Win2K for next to nothing from ebay or similar.
