    Wal-Mart plans to spend $3 billion over the next several years on a new inventory tracking technology that uses radio frequency signals to keep tabs on merchandise, sources familiar with the project said.

    Wal-Mart will also be using the same technology to track their illegal immigrant workers by placing a small microchip in their heads.

    Maybe they are just upgrading, they have used RF technology for several years. Many of my companies distribution centers have shipped barcoded inventory to them for sometime now. They use Telxon and Symbol Technologies equipment in their stores.
