I had a bag phone (an Ericsson, maybe..?) circa 1998. That analog monster could get a connection in places that still don't have digital coverage today. Oh, six miles from the nearest tower in a hilly area? A little static was about the only annoyance.
  3. When I was 18, my first was a Nokia 8210, I paid $500 because I wanted to be different, instead of getting a 6185. Three months before it became Cingular. Unlimited texting, unlimited data...which sounded absurd back then to have...All for $20 bucks (5 for text and 15 for data)...I wish I kept that deal :-(

I got my first cellphone at the age of 12 that was a nokia 3310 I think it costs around $150 that time :) I'm now 22 years old..
  5. I'm 30 now, and I remember getting my first mobile phone as a 16th birthday present. It was the Nokia 5110 and that phone lasted me for a very long time.

This phone went through a toilet, washing machine, falling off 4th story balcony onto cement and still managed to work without any issues.

They just don't make things the way they used to

I think it was early 1999 when I got my first cellphone a Nokia 3210, and I was 27 years old at that time.

My first cell was at 18 (I'm 26 now). Parents paid for the phone and activation as my 18th birthday present to me. My mom pretty much brown beat my dad into - she seem to be afraid of me falling of the face of the planet if she couldn't get a hold of me 24/7 :p.
If was a Motorola flip phone that I really liked (it had great service and very durable. Found it moving a while back with its charger - plugged it in and it still worked :p Froze it in a snow bank once for a few hours at one point :p).
I was forced to switch to a new phone a few years later when the small cell company I was with switch to phones using SIM cards. I got a Sony Erircson that was a total POS. Terrible reception on that thing. After that I picked up a second hand Razr off my friend, and have been using Motorola Razr ever since. (Although I'm finally looking at a smart phone mainly because the "new" Razr seem to be refurbished pieces of crap). I still have that original used Razr from ~2007ish, and it still turns on. Have to use speaker phone to hear anyone but hey it still works :p.

Im 24 now. So 10 years ago at age 14. MIGHT have been 13. I think it's a really bad idea for your kid not to have one if he is older than 10.

Never had a cellphone untill I was around 37. I grew up in the age of pagers. But I also remember the only way to get ahold of someone was on a landline. I resisted the "Cellphone craze" for as long as possible. It was a simple bar phone. No games and it was pay as you go. I could literally rubberband this phone to my wallet. And did. It heated up after 30 secs of talking. Maybe 6hrs standby and couldnt recieve text messages. It was a servicable phone for my needs at that time. Now I sell cellphones and have a Iphone4. I did go through a anti-tech phase for a few years. Once that was over I got into smartphones quickly.

I was 27 when I got my first cell phone back in 1998. My friends had brick phones in the early 90's. about 5 dollars to make a 30 second call.

Just Google Motorola 5200. Your mental images will be reaffirmed.
