Weekend Open Forum: Desktops doomed to irrelevancy?

A butterfly will come out of the cocoon.

Until mobile devices get an input method that replaces a full keyboard and a way to display as much information as my Dual Monitor desktop then I do not think so.

I love the Itouch but I only use it for occasional surfing and would not want to have to type a lot on it.

Also with a laptop you do not have great ergonomics and will easily end up with injuries if using 8 hours a day, day in and day out!

Exactly how will they get us to carry around a printer? They can't.

So eventually after you used you 'mobile' to write your resume, you end up at your desk
next to your printer.

While your there to print-out your resume:

You connect your 19 inch screen to your 'mobile' (to see it life size, before you waste paper)
You see a spacing mistake,
So you plug in your 'keyboard' to the 'mobile' (to edit quicker)

While your printing out your resume.

Your dad comes around, very curious.

However, I thought it was this thread that had been doomed to irrelevancy, or had died of old age.

In my country, desktops are still used widely.
Because the price of those mobile computers are a little too high, only a small number of out population can buy them (it's the problem of poor countries). In addition, mobile PC aren't durable as desktops, so I don't think desktops will be replaced soon.
