Why Building a Gaming PC Right Now Is a Bad Idea, Part 1: Expensive DDR4 Memory

How exactly do I own you my paycheck? Please, quote exactly what I said and explain yourself. And stop lying. And now that I demonstrated that all reviewers prove you wrong, you are ignored. Cya
I am ignored for real this time or is it another of your "it's for real because I say it's so but I have no proof of it so I am just making things up"?

So, with that said, if you spent greater than $1500 just to game, then you better be a pro, otherwise you would have gotten a better return from a Ryzen 7 CPU.
True but then you could have even gotten a better return then the ryzen with the i7-7700k, proven facts above.
Oh and also, about 40% of gamers are gaming above 1080P... Many are multi monitor setups where they're running 3840 x 1080 and then the 7700K advantage is mostly gone.

And that is lie as proven by facts through steam hardware survey with resolution above 1080p at under 5%. You were wrong with the xeons, wrong with the ryzen and wrong with the resolution. Its fun embarrassing you with facts.

There's a reason we banned you from Tom's Hardware back in 2015, and it was your senseless arguments and hand picked benchmarks, along with an overbearing argumentative style. I'm surprised the mods here haven't picked up on it yet and bounced you out of here like we did. Don't worry, they will eventually.

I'm against banning people like him. He serves as a comic relief. The ultimate fanboy calling other people fanboys. The irony is astounding.

Reasons not build a PC

1 - overpriced RAM due to supply
2 - overpriced GPU due to mining
3 - if you have a OC i5-2500k or better you are fine on the CPU side. New Gen consoles just launched and they simply re-used the previous consoles CPU with a slight OC. AAA pc games won't be as CPU demanding as fan boys hope for 1080p 60 FPS gaming the next few years, until replacement consoles launch (2020-2021).
4 - monitors outside of 1080p 60hz are still pricey especially if you want an IPS model as opposed to cheaper TN.
5 - 6 core+ CPUs have yet to mature on the tech and software side. Remember how great the intel Q6600 and Phenom IIx4 955 were? Great to OC, fantastic synthetic benchmarks, yet on the intel dual core 8400 was outperforming them in gaming. Fan boys stated wait until games are optimized for multicore...and they were...eventually...when the intel 2500k launched. That chip made minced meat out of both the Q6600 & phenom II x4 and instantly became the go to gaming CPU.

Could not have said it better, you hit all the marks
My lowest end PC still plays Shadow of War.. just fine.

Would love to upgrade, but that will be for 4k and everything is still way to expensive
to consider upgrading. Very little return on any investment

NVidia doesn't need volta right now they are still in the best position and to be fair until HDMI 2.1 and Display port 1.4 are here there is absolutely no reasonable market for better GPUs.
.....
Why not to upgrade, mainly we are on the cusp of another generational leap....again.
....
Ryzen + will improve on what Ryzen couldn't deliver and that prospect is delicious.
......
Volatile and non-volatile memory will continue to be a problem because like the LCD panel market they use every trick in the book legal and illegal to increase prices for maximum profits.
....
Intel releasing processors not effected by meltdown.because as time goes on they will be bogged down further and further by patches over time, if you are insane to believe that the current performance hit will be the last of it you are mistaken, they started with a light touch patch to not Shel shock the communities any further. Besides that it reinforces later sales as the performance upgrade will be more wide.

All this fuss about a peaking market. It will pass. With sharp drop in crypto currencies I expect used 1080s to begin hitting eBay in the next week in sufficient quantity as to depress prices by close to half. RAM may follow.

Crystal ball says drop in used and buying pressure off new, prices should all be much more reasonable in less than 6 months.

@Steve - thanks for really nice article!

Wasn't there a natural disaster a year or two ago (earthquake, flood, typhoon, cyclone, etc.) that did major damage to some of the fabricating plants which also caused prices to go up? Never heard a follow-up story on whether / when the factories were fixed.

I could google for these answers, but that's no fun.

Check the forum history.

If it happen people would have talk about it here.

you mean it wasn't because we laughed your mods off of jonnyguru and they were so embarrassed they decided to get back at us? 100% positive it was!

It is only a lie if you don't know how to read the chart!

Read the heading titled...

Multi-Monitor Desktop Resolution
3840x1080
34%

The problem is, they never tell you what % of people are multi monitor. I am right now, 1 is 1080P and the other is 4K.

You can apologize now!

As for the i7 - 7700 sorry but at $350 it was not a better bang for the buck than the Ryzen 7 1700. The 1700 Smoked it every place but gaming and when you game at 4K (Which is what I already told you I do), then gaming numbers are pretty much identical.

Sorry you guys don't like this, but you're wasting resources if you're buying a faster CPU for $150 more and sacrificing a faster GPU.
Unfortunately, you're not doing the math correctly.

As you'll notice, 3840x1080 is not listed in Steam's main chart. Therefore, it falls into the "Other" category- which accounts for 0.96% (roughly 1%) of all Steam users. Of that one percent, 34% use 3840x1080.

That means that 1/3 of 1% of all Steam users are playing at that resolution. That's a very thin slice of the pie.

Guess I'm sticking with my current rig for another few years (assuming it lasts). My i5-3570K @ 4.4 rarely bottlenecks my card at 3440x1440p. Then again, I'm not doing competitive gaming. Maybe I'll just get a new case at some point and pretend it's a new build.

With fluctuating gpu and memory prices with a slowing market are just going to make the market worse as the cost of even just a budget pc escalates.

It seems they would rather just produce for other companies and dump the consumer market altogether because some business board decided that they don’t like how thier spreadsheets look.

Whoever decides to abandon this markup practice and starts a price drop war is going to win all the consumers.

ROFL, you think one in three people run multiple monitors!! ROFL. that is the percentage of people who run multiple monitors for resolution not ALL gamers! Lol I can't believe you thought that ! That is hilarious and embarrassing for you!lol

You got caught posting single monitor resolution numbers and now you're doubling back... I know for a fact most of my friends either run ultra wide or multiple monitors to game. You don't like that, that makes you an *****, not me. I'm on dual monitors right now! One is 1080P and the other is 4K!!!

Sorry, but your 1080P claims were blown out of the water by the survey you posted! Boy you're not very bright are you!

That's not true either... Other only falls in that category if it is a single monitor! That's dual 1080P Monitor resolution and again your math is horrifically bad!

The problem is people waiting for 4k computer monitor cost to come down in price same as OLED monitors. And because small number of PC users have 4k monitors there is less investment in bringing out newer cheaper 4k gaming computers.

May be in 5 years from now 4k gaming may take off. But for now 4k gaming will be small number of gamers.

Most people will stick to 1080 monitor than jump on 3k or 4k monitor.

You need at least $600 video card if you are thinking of getting into 4k gaming.

At least 16 GB of RAM.

Not say cost of buying 4k monitor.

The best option right now is something like the Asus GL502VM, as you can get G-SYNC, 1060 (6 Gig), 16 Gigs RAM, and an i7 7700 for about $1100. Sure, you'll need to add an SSD into the second drive bay and you'll likely want and external monitor.

Of course, the alternative is spending almost as much on a GPU alone.

Those are 1080P Monitors... When you stack two of them side by side it becomes 3840 x 1080P.

Also, you don't need a $600 card to play in 4K, I do it was my $360 GTX 1070. You cannot go Ultra on everything but you can get between 45 and 60 FPS on High settings for most titles.

RAM doesn't require 16 Gigs either.

My 4K Monitor was $232 and it is an IPS Panel with 100% sRGB support. I have seen it on sale for $200 since I purchased it.

Sadly I have to try to get off the fx platform amidst this mess of memory pricing T_T Looks like my days of tabwhoring in chrome are over, goodbye 32GBs!
