When installing CFS2 off the CD, disc 1, on the opening screen all 3
buttons are "greyed" out and indecipherable, pressing any button leads
to screens with more greyed out buttons! Not knowing what the
instructions makes it hard to procede with installation.

I previously thought that the Matrox G400 card was the only possible
cause, however since fitting a new SUMA GF4 Ti4200 64mb card I was
surprised to find that nothing has changed!

    My system:
    Abit CUSL2C Bios 1003
    Pentium 3 1000
    512 mbx 133 Kingmax SDRAM
    Windows 98SE
    Soundblaster live
    Mitsubshi Diamond Plus 71 moniter

    I also have installed : Il2 Sturmovik ( 40FPS at 1024 x 768 x 32)since upgrading to the GF4 this game runs perfectly
also Warbirds2 and 3 run equally well.

I tried the CD in my daughters' old BH6/Viper ...worked perfectly! So the problem is not the CD.

I am reasonally clued up on computers having built many over the years,
however this problem has me stumped.

For what its worth, I installed " Fighter Ace" off the CD, noproblems, everything displays normally.

Hmmm... corrupted Direct X installation, perhaps? What happens if you reinstall that? (Just upgrade to latest version...)

Call microsoft. The call should be free. I called their customer support after having an issue w/ CFS2, and they called me back when they said they would, and we eventually got it fixed.

    It was pretty refreshing, actually:)

I recently upgraded to DX8.1 also all the other games run perfectly.DXdiag says np problems.

I wasn't aware that you could call Microsoft for advice for free, previously they have asked me for my credit card details prior to calling back.

Hey guys, someone must have an explanation here?

My call was free. I don't see why yours wouldn't be. It was about 1 yr ago, and I just called the number I found after hitting the "help" and "troubleshooting" tabs. Give it a shot if no one can help you here. I was impressed at their level of service.
