Hi All,
I recently cleaned a friends computer of several viruses and trojans and when it was clean I put SP2 on it . But it turned off the Windows Firewall an wouldn't let me turn it back on!! Anyway, I was going to put another firewall on it but for future reference , how would I get Windows Firewall up and running again?

Its unlikely that the SP2 turned off the firewall, you may still be virused, adding any other firewall may be a waste of time as most viruses can turn them off quite easily.

When you say you cleaned... how exactly did you clean it, the best way would be to reinstall fully after backing up your data.

Try the fix HERE It replaces a missing or corrupt shared access key.

If that fails -

1. Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
2. Navigate to the following locations:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ WindowsFirewall
-and-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ WindowsFirewall

3. Backup and then delete the WindowsFirewall key.
4. Close Regedit.exe and restart Windows

They are Group Policy restrictions ,possibly enabled by spyware.

Thanks Ididmyc600,
I cleaned it with Ewido ,AVG7,Ad-aware,etc..

Thanks Peddant,
Thanks for the link and help. Will try other help if it reoccurs.
