win32 not a valid app

  1. this is regarding my previous thread... mouse software... besides that i just wanna know.
wats the reason behind softwares made for an older OS version not compatible with the newer OS?
i can understand that software made for win xp will be incompatible with win 98.
but shouldn't WIN XP recognise the WIN 98 apps and be able to execute them?
and i know that the app isnt corrupted so the only prob is the compatibility issue. well... wat i really mean is that win xp may have it's seperate way of executing the progs and may have a different H/W and S/W architecture but WIN XP should be able to somehow emulate this "invalid" win32 app.
    could someone explain?
