Can't get windows update to work keep getting an error and it keeps telling me that the files required for windows for xp are no longer registered or installed on are computer we had some work done on are computer and they had to reinstall windows xp and they also put sp2 on as well. Now the cd we have is older then the one on the computer now so how can i install the files.

installing windows with sp2 introduces all the security features enhanced in to ur pc... so if u get the error message for update propably that the microsoft has found that the windows u r using is not licensed (this is bcoz of the sp2)..so u cant update without a valid key and one more thing that if this is not the case then probably the newer installing had overwritten the previous version files so just try uninstall windows sp2 first and then install ur cd.

Use NLite to slipstream SP2 into your XP and then burn it to disk. then you have a disk with XP W/SP2.

Ask who ever did your work if they have the disk with the SP2 files on them. Or you can do as iss says and slipstream SP2 onto your copy of XP.
