Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is now available: A collection of many small and medium-sized...

3.5 hours to finish in place upgrade to Fall Creators Update from Creators Update (25GB free space; i3-530, 2x4GB DDR3-1600 @1333 gskill , palit NVidia 9800GT 1GB DDR3). I will try clean installation on my other desktop PC tomorrow.

You might just want to reinstall.... cause no one I know has any issue with search/Cortana (other than being annoyed by Cortana's voice)... I use it all the time and haven't had any issues either...

I'm a tad concerned about Windows Movie Maker being declared "obsolete"... how come?? And will I still be able to use it? I'm now teaching Grade 2/3 and I regularly edit Youtube videos (like Just Dance, and other kiddy videos) with it in order to add my own students.... would prefer not to have to use another program (I know there are plenty of better ones - but for free, Move Maker was pretty darn useful).

Hope MS' replacement program works the same way...
I did reinstall multiple times from different .iso files (all from MS) and I also installed it on different PCs. I'm guessing there is a setting that breaks it because I like to turn a lot of stuff off on a clean install of Windows 10.
That was a known issue in one of the test rollouts. Make sure your not a fast ring insider. If you're on the insider program roll back two generations and remove yourself, then update.
If your not an insider rollback one generation, join the SLOW ring insider updates, and then update.
Looks like you caught a bad update that wasn't intended for you.
Also of note is by default Microsoft shares updates to 10 across computers in the same network. Once you do the above on all your systems you may want to disable the update sharing feature which will download a larger ISO initially and then share bits of the same file across multiple computers. So an error in the initial download may well leak into all other updates on the rest of the network

I managed to fix my issues by downloading software from http://www.tweaking.com/.

Installed and removed. I can no longer install programs to program files or program files (x86) as well flashgot for firefox doesn't work properly so jdownloader doesn't work for me. Hey Microsoft please don't ask us to debug your software.

Installed, no problems so far, works smoothly, not surprising as the install was essentially a new install. Windows.old folder was like 20 GB

Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but the newest section in the Task Manager (GPU Usage) shows my GPU usage as 0% even though I'm using it to Fold and it's being utilized at %100. Also, under processes, next to the Folding@Home Task, it does not shows "GPU". I guess Windows now lets you know what apps are using your GPU. Either somethings up or it doesn't recognized Folding @Home as an app that is being utilized.

Also my RAM speed is still incorrect. Always has been.

I'm still using W7 Pro for the most part but was forced to upgrade on my Surface Pro to W10. Seems ok on SP.

Advice needed:
Why change if W7 Pro is working great? It's a serious question so please be considerate.

Hi. W7 is a great OS and will be supported until 2020. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet
You should check to see if your PC will support W10. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...s/5152bb37-f95d-48a6-b7b2-ad0d5c738923?auth=1
You can find many opinions on the web about switching from W7 to W10. Here's just one of them.
Good luck. I'm a happy W10 user. My advise is to create a back up image so if your not happy with W10, you can always switch back to W7. I hope this helps you. I tried to be serious.;) https://www.theguardian.com/technol...ould-I-upgrade-from-microsoft-windows-7-to-10

If it meets your needs that is the main thing (notice I said needs not wants). If it does what you need it to do, then ignore all the advertising that makes you think you need the latest and greatest or you are a wanker.
Assuming what you currently have meets your needs, put a little cash away over time as you will likely need to replace cpu, mobo, ram, want to go to NVMe SSD etc when you do actually need to change and at once this will be a pile of cash.

It's rarely worth upgrading an OS on existing hardware - if it's working fine, don't bother changing. If you're buying new, then you should definitely have the newest OS.

In your case, as you already have Win 10 on the Surface - it comes down to personal preference. If you enjoy the OS on your Surface better than your PC... Or if you just want consistency on both machines... then by all means upgrade! As long as you create a backup image, as I believe another user already stated, you can always go back if you get some terrible error or failure of some kind.
