Windows 10 holds strong: nearly 7 out of 10 desktops still powered by the older OS

It holds on because the "average user" has never updated their BIOS, and/or never turned on TPM, and doesn't realise their machine can upgrade if they do. They just see a message saying their system isn't ready (because TPM is usually off in older systems), and leave it at that.

Or maybe they simply don't want to.

Maybe all the crap, propaganda, and brute force that M$ inflicted on users with the introduction of Windows 10, left a bad taste in their mouths, which still persists 10 years later.

Windows 11 is nothing more than an eye candy tablet OS that Microsoft could not give away when it was first developed for the tablet. It did so badly when it first came out for tablets, but they had tons of man hours and money dumped into it, they could not just abandon it for a huge loss, So, they decided to convert it to a pc OS and cram it down your throat whether you like it or not.
Here is the thing ..... even if it takes a few years, Microsoft knows that sooner or later you will have no other choice but to convert over to 11.They know that over 90% of their user base that is screaming they are gonna jump ship for a Linux distro probably will never do it and either install 11 or purchase a new system with 11 installed on it sooner or later, so time is on their side.

But if they had any brains at all, if they would just remove the install restrictions, Windows 11 would more than likely take over Windows 10 as the dominant OS probably before Windows 10 reaches end of life. Why? because most people prefer eye cand over functionality

Maybe that's true for some people. I'm also telling you I've encountered multiple people who couldn't care less, and the only reason they haven't upgraded is pure apathy/laziness/ignorance over the process required to upgrade.

Dude, that's a bit harsh. Conversely, I could perhaps tag you as a person who feels obligated to say, "how high:, when M$ tells you to "jump". And Satya Nadela just got himself a billion dollar bonus because so many did just that..

So with windows 10, M$ removed media center, withdrew TV program guides, added a ton more telemetry than was already present, and are happily leading their, "more enlightened users", with rings through their noses to the M$ store.

But wait, there's more. Now M$ wants to force obsolescence on millions of Win 10 PCs by virtue of some propagated repetitive myth about "security, security, security".

So, those who aren't "upgrading", don't strike me a "lazy", or "incapable". I perceive them more along the lines of, "done with the bullsh!t".

Nothing you've said counters what I've said? I said there are people who don't/didn't care to upgrade.
They were ignorant of how to do this themselves (I'm not insulting them, nor do I think less of them for not knowing, that is just the correct word to apply). They didn't care enough to learn how (apathy, laziness, I could also have said 'indifference'). When I told them they could upgrade and were shown how, they did.

If it had been one person, I would say it was a random occurrence. The fact I have encountered multiple people from different backgrounds, age groups, etc. just within my own life/social circle makes me believe it's a more common problem.

That's all I was trying to say. That adoption is not (solely) being hindered because of any active dislike of MS or their changes. It's because MS shot themselves in the foot and made the process difficult enough that people who aren't explicitly interested in upgrading won't bother, because of the extra effort required.

Yes, I am sure plenty of people have deliberately chosen not to upgrade for various reasons. I don't think that (alone) accounts for the overall adoption numbers.

Had time permitted, I would have simply put W7 onto my new machine after the last one died. Having left the industry in 2016, I found - and still find - no reason no "upgrade" to newer, more complex versions of an OS that does what most or all of us actually need. But W10 it is, hopefully until they take the Logitech away from my cold, dead hands.
