Windows 8 safe mode problems

So I accidently booted into safe mode with the registry repair option selected and now when it boots it is a blank screen with the power button on bottom right and the compatibility options for on screen keyboards and stuff on the bottom left. I can't figure out a way to either boot in normal mode, or the default safe mode. To get into safe mode I hit the windows key and r and opened a program and went to the boot tab and changed the setting to boot in safe mode and restarted my computer. I need help rebooting in a different mode.

I'm running Windows 8.1 but things are basically the same under the bonnet. If you enter msconfig in the search box and open it that gives you access to System Configuration. Click on the Boot Tab and uncheck the box for Safe Boot. Select Apply and then restart the computer.

Easier maybe to start from when you press the windows key and r. Enter msconfig in the box and work from there.
