Windows sounds are scratchy, static-filled

  1. In the past 2-3 days, my Windows sounds (X-Fi Platinum, ASUS A8N-E, Vista Ultimate 64-bit w/latest Creative driver) are very tinny/scratch/static filled.

I've checked the connection for the speakers at both the sub-woofer (Bose 2.1 system) and sound card, and everything is fine, as far as I can tell. Sounds through the speakers are great once I log into World of Warcraft, but the quality of normal Windows sounds sucks right now, and it's driving me nuts.

    Anyone else experienced this?
