l have obtained a copy of windows xp professional sp2 that is already fully activated and does not require on line activation. l have installed this on about 20 computers which are all on the net and there has been no problems with microsoft updates or anything. This copy is for corporate users only so it tells me on the front of the disk. l am new to all of this and would like to know why Microsoft would put out such a disk. Regards Riverland.

So corporations don't have to deal with activation of course.

User accounts are generally restricted on the corporate level, and needing to manually activate and update every machine would be too much of a time sink.

Just imagine rolling out 5000 new workstations and having to activate every single one of them :) Not to mention that you might want to set these up in some environment with no or very restricted internet access - imagine activating all the machines over the phone :D
