Wireless works fast on one computer but not another

  1. My DSL speed was recently increased and it was supposed to have increased by four; and it has. The only problem is it seems to only work on my brother's laptop and not my laptop which are the same laptops. But I need to know if its a computer settting that's slowing my internet....or what. I don't have any known bacground programs running. I just don't know.I don't know what else to say so just tell me if you need to know anything.

there are a lot of variables that affect wifi speed. Drivers, range from transmitter, software version, antenna type (no 2 antennas are the same even if the same model), etc...
Check your firewalls, and software versions and range from transmitter. Assuming all else is equal, that's about all you can do.

Go to www.speedguide.net and download TCP Optimizer and then configure both your laptop and your brothers to match the reported bandwidth speed.
MTU should be 1492 for DSL..
