IT doesn't matter. I've run XP on 256MB ram before and it's fine. You just have to be fussy with eliminating unwanted services and startup programs.

    smtkr is right

smtkr is right. I've even got XP workling fairly nicely on 128 MBs. Starts up with 21 processes. For me though, I've found Windows 2000 to be the best M$ offering so far. Minimum of lost hair.

I Run Windows XP on 512MB RAM, and its pretty fast.

I also run Norton Internet Security 2006, and MS Office Enterprise Edition 2003. All very RAM hungry, and they all run fine.

All discussion before Cookiedude's post yesterday isn't really worth getting excited about. The post is 3 years old. He brought a 3 year old post back just to ask some guy about his ram for loading photoshop 7.

Well evanwilson6 was quoting something from almost 3 years ago and replying to it, obviously not realizing it came from 3 years ago.

My point is if we want to discuss this again, its probably best to create a new thread, because as shown, people don't always pay attention to the dates of posts, and that leads to confusion. And as everyone knows, things change in the computing world pretty substantially in 3 years.

I found that Windows 2000 is kind of slow when running on lower amounts of RAM (Over 128 MB is fine.) I would still go with Windows XP SP2 if your working with games and 3dsmax.
