I compared these two model vid cards and realized that the X850XT PE had more pixel pipelines, a faster clock frequency and the same memory speed. Would that meant that the X850XT PE would be almost equivalent or better than the X1800?

The X1800 has to be faster. It has more pixel shader processors, and newer, more efficient architecture. But it's way more expensive than the X850.

No problem mate. I have the X850XT PE, and it's very very fast, but no doubt that a X1800 will trash it :)

Just wondering, how does it work on Oblivion (if you have tried it, I can't find a proper benchmark).

I haven't tried it, but I found just one benchmark, and the X850XT manages 23 FPS @ 1600x1200. It even managed to beat a 7800GT, and a X1800XL in that test!!

And that was the normal XT version. The XT PE version has to be slightly faster!

I just found THIS other benchmark. The X1800GTO beats the x850XT in some games, and the X850 beats the X1800 in others.
A good, cheaper midranger would be the 7600GT.

It should be good too. 20 pixel pipelines, and fast GDDR3 RAM. It will beat a X850, and probably, the X1800 too.

How much can you afford for a video card?

I can't run it on my PSU (has a requirement of 26A on the 12V rail, I only have 18A). Thanks anyway though. I read an article though that said a vid card would work on psu's lower than the required amount with a lower Amp rating though.

A 7600GT beats a X1800GTO For your information, these cards suck IMO, and X850XT PE's are usually cheaper but sold out at newegg )125$( And I run a X1300 on a PSU with 12A on the 12V rail, along wit 2 HD's 2 CD Drives. And this is an emachine PSU lol, you will be fine.

A 7600GT beats an X1800GTO???

Yeah probably. The Geforce is a very efficient card. Even crippled with a 128 bit memory bus, it manages to beat in some tests the X1800GTO.

For your PSU, the 7600GT would be the best choice, as it doesn't even require a dedicated power plug. The X1800GTO requires a strong PSU to run correctly.

If you wish to change the PSU, then get the 7900GT :)
