After updating windows messenger to version 5.0, (I am assuming its that twhich is causing the problems) my win xp wont boot properly.

It goes into the opening screen and when I click on my personal ident, it then opens a blue screen, displaying an error message saying that the Bootex.log file is invalid.

It then goes into a check routine on all my hard disks giving me error messageges that the sizes of the user profile in Documents and Settings are not valid. Any idea how I can fix this problem?

I can restore to the last known working Restore point when rebooting, but don't seem to be able to make that restore point the new default system default. I have saved the working last restore point with a given name, but it still doesn't make it the default system when booting. Does anyone know how I do this? Thanks.

Did you try un-installing messenger? That would be the first thing to do.
Second, goto run, type in "msconfig"
Uncheck all the boxs, then reboot.
If it works, then re-check the boxs 1 by 1 until the machine scews up again to see which program is causing you your problems.
