YouTube now warns users that ad blockers aren't allowed

Advertising is one of the worst professions. Wastes peoples times.
Usually pays someone far too much who is usually already far too rich n famous and doesn't need the cash.
User pays more, for that luxury.
Advertising is irrelevant and pointless to the user. Its unwanted. Its a irrelevant pointless market.
Google can go swing.
The entire internet as we know it today was built on money generated by advertisement.
As a small business owner I know that first hand.
The problem is not with ads, the problem is with people these days. We all want everything, right now and for free. We think its our right!
Why on earth would anyone who created content do it if there is no way to get paid for it?
You do t even ha e to pay for it, You can just ignore a few ads and you get the content you wanted. Is that so hard?

I know for skippers, but didnt knew that there are ones that can filter channels. Tnx!
I use "YouTube Channel Whitelist" on FF. It requires you to setup your adblock to ignore a certain phrase (if it's a whitelisted channel), and has a lot of options to control the ads.

The biggest problem with advertising today is it is uncreative and often just obtuse to what is actually being sold. Advertising in the 80's was a form of entertainment in itself with many creative ad campaigns that were fun. If it weren't for the broadcasters ramping up the volume 15% when ads came on, there might have been less of a call for a mute button on remotes.
It just becomes noise that you have to wait 5 seconds to skip or you just turn your phone down until it's over.

Ads are why I primarily consume YoutTube content from a browser and not through their app or cast/streaming through a TV.

Pi hole is not a good solution for content blocking. It doesn't stop connections to any content servers. All it does it block DNS lookups to a known blocklist. With google's cloud technology, even a good content blocker probably won't be able to beat them and Pi Hole is not a good content blocker.

I have an Ad Blocker; it's 'my mind'. The ads come and go and leave no impact on my brain. I could not for the life of me remember a single ad I saw on youtube, or pretty much anywhere else. Good luck making that illegal.

Ads on smartphone really makes me think who is in control. It does not feel like the smartphone is personal anymore.
I wonder how people can fancy one brand over other these days, when phones are full of ads.

I have not used an adblocker on there (the only time I ever did use an adblocker, it was to block popups -- you can damn well keep your ads in your window -- but don't even do that any more since most browsers block "most" popups now. And I've gotten used to rapidly closing the ones on "seedy" sites.)

But I do have to say, they need to adjust their ad load a little bit. I watch some longer video, and the quantity of ads... well, I'd prefer 0 but the quantity they have is appropriate I guess. Several times I've gone to watch a like 3 minute video, and in Youtube-fantasy-land they think I'm going to sit through an unskippable 60 second ad? Guess what, that is not happening, I close youtube at that point.

Advertising is a form of brainwashing and mind control.
An expansion, correction, or addition, if you please:

"Advertising is propaganda, (in the literal sense), its use is an attempt to illicit brainwashing and mind control".

I refer to these Wiki articles from time to time, in an effort to keep the concepts fresh in my mind:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Propaganda

In the 2nd article, "dictator" needs to be subbed out with, "mascot", and "government" needs to be subbed out with "corporation", or "organization".

Had your 2 cents cost me that, I'd want a refund. I'm aware the feeling is mutual as is the lack of respect.

There was no feeling of love or disdain involved in my post. In fact, I was trying to amplify your sentiment. Sorry you didn't take it that way.

Read my first link, then compare it with the ads you see. Then refer back and forth to "propaganda techniques". I assure you, the results will be both enlightening and alarming.

I have started using an adblocker, when Youtube started booting off and throttling creators, I was watching. I will just quite the platform entirely, if they try to force their ads on me.

... The internet is mostly dross.
All the internet, storage, cloud storage, the destruction it causes the power wasted to access cat videos.
Most jobs are pointless. Create stuff that will end up in landfill. Just so someone has a job, to pay bills, taxes for a war machine.
Most humans too. Overpopulated, but we are the Guinea pigs the research specimens.
Our governments only love our tax payments.
Money is a figment of their imagination. It was a system of barter and the exchange of goods.
Now its a system of control.
Do I care if you don't get paid in a system you shouldn't even be part of.

It's not that I am not resigned to the fact that anything worthwhile has to be paid for, it's just that I hate going through an act of congress just to get to what I HAVE paid for, like having to get a text message to get to my amazon or bank account.
