Here's my WD Raptor compared to 3 other IDE drives.

Top Left - WD Raptor; 74GB, 8MB cache, 10,000RPM, SATA

Top Right - Samsung SP0411N; 40GB, 2MB cache 7,200RPM, EIDE

Bottom Right - WD Caviar SE; 120GB, 8MB cache, 7,200RPM, EIDE

Bottom Left - Seagate ST340810A; 40GB, 2MB cache, 7,200RPM, EIDE

What I don't understand is why all of the drives spike down like that. It's not even on partition transition points.

This comparison is great.

However, I'm quite surprised that your Seagate ST340810 has outperformed your WD Caviar.

How are these drives tested? All of them recently reformatted, and still empty?

My WD Caviar SE works like a charm. Well, this is my second one. I stupidly didn't unplug/turn off the computer when hooking my hard drive in (case fans are almost silent) and the power cord (hard drive) sent a nice orb of electricity into the hard drive causing it to smoke. My fault though. Hmm, I did that a while ago.
