my car PC (in a 2007 Ford Fusion). the pic is a Lilliput EBY701 touchscreen VGA monitor connected to my old Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop in the trunk. no keyboard or mouse needed, everthing is controlled through the touchscreen interface

Cool mod, I've thought about doing a carputer, but I always come back to two problems. First, I'm afraid my hard drive will crash if I hit a bump(and SSDs are too expensive), and second, I can't find enough uses for it that my headunit can't already do. WiFi syncing of my music at home while I'm parked would be awesome though. I do think carputers are really cool though. I've seen some really neat stuff over at the mp3car forums.

Looks like a DEH-P490IB down below, nice unit.

can't find enough uses??? there are so many uses for a car PC; fullscreen GPS navigation, music, video/DVD, back-up/rearview camera, night vision, engine/car OBDII diagnostic reading & sensor reading, video games, etc. etc. etc... since I'm keeping a head unit, my main use for the PC will be GPS navigation, and i'll be adding an OBDII module and back-up camera to it in the near future

also, you're right it is a DEH-P490IB.. it's a nice yet basic head unit, I chose it because I wanted the focal point to be the computer screen, and not a fancy looking head unit.

vnf4, now with the dawn of WWAN, you can now sync your music from home! And maybe you could get a 16GB Compact Flash card and get a CF/IDE adapter! There! Problema solved. And maybe some semi-expensive anti-shock mounting for the HD, preferable a laptop one.
