Specs:

Core 2 Duo E4300 @ 1.8 Ghz

Intel P945G Mobo

2 Gb 533 Mhz RAM

320 Gb Western Digital HDD

350 Watt PSU

Integrated Video (No longer the X1300 shown in pic, cause it was ...slower...)

Standard DVD-RW / RAM Burner

Whatever Gateway Case

9-in-one memory card reader

Vista Ultimate X86

I really enjoy using this computer. Upgraded from Pentium 3 1Ghz with 512Mb RAM 133Mhz to this!!!!! Flies through video encoding, even though I cant overclock my E4300 in the BIOS. I have used Clock Gen to OC in windows, but I can't get past 1.9 Ghz without freeze.I lowered RAM speed to 400 Mhz and even loosened latency to 5-5-5-15.... O well, hoping to get an 8800gt for Christmas to really get this computer going!! Can't wait to see Crysis!!! My CPU will probably struggle with it though....

wow only a 350w PSU?

I'm surprised nothing in your computer has slow downed / died from such a low watt from it...

Upgrade the PSU to 500w atleast then you'll be safe

Haha, ya I know. Maybe that is the reason I can't overclock for crap. I plan to upgrade PSU when I get a new Video Card. E4300's don't require much power, as well as the other parts in my system, so I don't have any problems at all concerning power.

My old Pentium 3 system that I replaced with my new one in July ran on a 200watt power supply for 7 years. Still running in my little brother's room actually. Its a P3 with 512 mb RAM, an 80gig WD HDD, a DVD Burner, a standard DVD ROM drive, and a PCI X1300 Video card. No problems!!

Haha, just to add to everybody's amazement about my low-wattage PSU, I realized the other day that it is not a 350 watt, but a 300 watt. My original thinking was from memory, but I opened up the case the other day to dust it out and realized it was only 300 watt. But it still runs all my stuff.

Are you even sure an 8800GT will fit in there?

Haha ya I measured it out already. I might have to cut a little bit out of the hard drive cage, but I would make it fit however I could. But as it turns out, I spent all my money on a new mp4 player for Christmas..... O well maybe now I'll get the slightly cheaper 9600gt soon...

They say the 9600 is a rip off because it has half the stream processors of an 8800GT. Don't forget to get a new psu if you get a vid card.

Meh, just because 9600gt's only have 64 SPU's, doesn't mean it is a rip off. Think about AMD's HD3850 and 3870 having 320 stream processors. That is significantly more than the 8800gt's 112 SPU's, but the 3850 and 3870 don't come close to very many 8800gt benchmarks. SPU's dont mean everything. At least the 9600gt comes closer to 8800gt performance than the HD3850 and HD3870. And yes I know, I need a better PSU to run an 8800gt or 9600gt.... I'm too young to have a job, so I don't have much money most of the time....

Oh yeah, NVIDIA runs their stream processors at insane speeds (insane compared to ATi which prefers quantity over speed.).

Yep, and besides, 9600gt's take slightly less power than an 8800gt, which in turn produces less heat, although still more than HD3850s and 3870s.

O, and by the way, have you tried VLC media Player to play Mp4 videos in Ubuntu? And installed correct codecs, such as Medibuntu? Code for medibuntu codecs are below.

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/dapper.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

then

wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

And if you would rather use Amarok to play them, open Synaptic and search for amarok; once you find it, read its description to make sure it's the version with MP3 and MP4 enabled.

It plays in VLC, but once again sound problems, it doesn't even play sound. I'll just play the vid's on XP, they are podcasts.

it looks so bland and impersonal, you need to mod that thing until it screams you, or something that is anything other than gateway, good specs tho

Well I would love to, but I'm 15..... I don't have any money. This computer took 4 years of birthday and Christmas money to save up for. I'm really jealous of your whole setup too..

I don't mod unless I have a computer to spare that no one is using (Like my Pentium 2 system...):P I think the gateway case looks fine, at least it isn't a white-box!

Yeah but what can you really do to a P2 system that would be cool? I have my old P3 system I could mess with, but if I have it off for 5 minutes, my mom and little brother would freak out and try to get on my computer! And I can't have that!! :O

I thought this was about modding cases, not overclocking. :P If you do get a 9600GT, that PC will be quite good! Core 2 Duo usually helps everything!

Lol. If I get a new video card, I want to wait till I have money to buy a new motherboard and RAM so I can overclock my processor. I got this computer for the sole purpose of overclocking it. (E4300 can go 3Ghz+), but I can't with Gateway BIOS....

lol, I have noticed even if you overclock...XP always takes at least 30 seconds to load :P Even if you have a raptor.
