I did the exact same thing to the back and front of my case, but I went through the trouble of removing everything first and then using a jigsaw. Worked out really well and finished it off with some very unrestrictive chrome fan grills.

That looks rather dangerous, you should put a Rubber trim around the edge so it doesn't cut your finger if you touch it on accident.
