I'm playing around with Sun xVM VirtualBox and collecting old and new operating systems. This is Windows 1.01, the first version of Windows (as far as I know). I couldn't get this to work at all, not even to run Notepad.

This looks more like a (not very good) DOS extension, rather than an OS. No mouse, no icons, no sound... In short: Nothing.

ohhhh, so windows 1.01 was the same as Dos 6?.....if I had been into computers back then....i would have tried to crossfire two of those Hurcules graphic adapters! LOL. very interesting stuff Lopdog

I guess you're talking about the "MS-DOS_6" text that appears in the screenshot. Actually it has nothing to do with Windows 1.01, but I installed MS-DOS 6.22 first (since Windows 1 could not run without DOS) and the DOS installation labeled the C: drive "MS-DOS_6". I think Windows 1 was meant to run with an earlier version of DOS, but I don't know which.
