I built my own pc case out of hardwood laminate. It's actually sort of a sff system, as it's very short and thin. It's my linux box, running ubuntu.

What happens if it catches fire?

I doubt it would, seeing that it doesn't run hot, it has a northwood p4, so it's not too hot. Even an extremely toasty 60C wouldn't be enough to ignite wood, at least I doubt it could. Also, the motherboard is mounted on rubber standoffs to keep it about a cm. away from the side panel. But back to the question, if it did catch fire, then I guess the case would burn, the motherboard would melt, and uh, yeah, it'd be bad, but it's unlikely. I think it would have to be 120C to start to char the wood, and about 190+C to actually set fire, and no cpu is going to still be producing heat if it gets that hot, it'll fry itself first.

Go 4 it! overclock! the wood would char at 80 and burn at about 110 so any slight wiring fault that could result in a shot in the computer would set the whole thing up! Also, even just warming the wood will warp it and split it! Oh well.... we learn from our mistakes!

Very cool case! Dont listen to the other complainers, everyone who built a pc knows that PC hardware temperatures run nowhere hot enough to ignite wood. And wood doesnt even conduct electricity, even the amount emitted by the hardware, wires or PSU.

Keep up the good work!

Now to add a clear side and some neons and it would be truly sweet, but the clear side would have to be made out of glass not plastic to keep the look right.

And if you ever got burgled they would think it was one of those old stereograms your nanna had when you were a kid.

Pity you spoilt it by putting Ubuntu on the top, kinda like buying a decent MP3 player and putting the carpenters on it, ha carpenters, wood case, get it ....
