Well I've got the 5th gen and I haven't been able to get it off of 'do not disconnect' any ideas? It's not updating, it's just uselessly flashing. Let me clarify.. I can stop it from flashing and I can reset and safely eject it but it still doesn't update.

I actually found out how to restart it.... I believe you just hold down the center key, and the play/pause until it restarts.

Let the battery die on the ipod by leaving it on. It will manaully reset its self. Then fire her up and you good to go.
Best of Luck...

Well actually awhile ago (around Christmas, so not really awhile ago) I returned it! The songs weren't even being detected, nor was the IPod when I plugged it in to my computer. I brought it to the local Mac store and the guy, being all full of himself, thought he could fix it. I kept assuring him it wasn't going to work, but he then tested it himself on one of their computers and still didn't work, which was no suprise to me. Although he did manage to get me, I found out that they couldn't take my IPod because it was HP. So I talked to the Customer Service at HP and they were very nice, unlike the people at the Mac Store, and they actually allowed me to send in my IPod and get a brandnew one. Suprising thing is that the IPod's warranty was expired, and actually expired a month before I talked to HP.

Personaly I think all these ipod / mp3 players are a waste of money because you can get the SAME music with a normal CD player that only cost about $20 instead of the $7896453411.50 Ipod
