ok I dled Amarok and I have a few q's.. firstly, does it sometimes sound as if it's making a click sound during the crossfade for you?

and when I drag my tracks to the right side it registers two copies of each song... just wondering if you have had any problems with the program...

otherwise props to amarok; steady, quick, feature rich, and sleek... better than any windows based media player in my opinion.

Ummm, what distro are you running? what sound system on top of alsa (or maybe still OSS)? I use it on Gentoo with quite a few flags on. It runs just fine for me with both xine and gstreamer engines. They found a nice way to cooperate with arts so no need for me to kill it, like with some other apps. I haven't observed any of the problems you mentioned. Oh well, sometimes we all need to deal with minor obstacles... ;] That's part of the fun with Linux. The more you know, the smaller those obstacles become.

Anyway, Amarok really rocks! --khmmm, it's AMAROK ROCK!

i'm using the Xine engine on mandriva 2006... i have a feeling there's a problem with my RAM

Mandriva uses KDE by default right? Which version is it? Arts is being remodeled - maybe that adds to the problem? Check out alsa, arts and amarok forums for more help. Or even better - switch to gentoo ;P

it uses whichever you install I suppose... I use KDE 3.4, but I don't think that could effect the audio output...

I think I have it down to either a faulty IDE cable. because I have my mandriva partition on my secondary IDE channel along with my music/video (which is on a NTFS partition btw) and my optical drive, or a Ram problem because sometimes in linux when I scroll pages and open menus it will show artifacts spanning horizontally (but this doesn't happen all the time).

Ram is crucial 2700

Processor is socket A sempron 3000+

one of the fasteners on one stick of the RAM is broken off... but I have the cpu on it's side and the ram has gravity on it's side...

I'm going to replace the IDE and maybe find new RAM and I'll hit you back

uh but... I'm starting to think that the future of this system looks grim

stole my brother's RAM, he's pissed but at least I fixed the artifacts and clicking...
