Yes, it is true - there will be a Doom movie, despite lots of speculation that it would never happen. Universal Pictures have announced on their website that the movie has gone into production and will be released August 5th next year. The set and story will be based on those of the game. Also, the movie will apparently keep the "hyper-kinetic, kamikaze style" going, and will present a "fully-realized vision of a dark and disturbing future". The movie is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and John Wells who are responsible for "The West Wing" and "ER" amongst others.

I can see it now, a cross between the political climate of West Wing with the heart stopping experiences of ER with a lot of shadows and dark corridors. "Will the President ever sanction the operation on the electrician so we again can have light in our corridors?"I'm sorry, but that you're behind ER and West Wing does not mean that you can produce a horror/dark action flick... But I'm still looking forward to seenig the end-result
