By Derek Sooman

On April 4, 2005, 12:44 PM

The "XE" in "Intel Pentium D XE" stands for Extreme Edition, and as such one would expect screaming performance from this dual core chip. However, it is being reported that this chip performs poorly with hyperthreading turned on, and that it does not perform on par with a system using two separate CPUs in this respect.

  1. Why am I not surprised?OHHHHH that's right, *cough* wilamette *cough* prescott *cough* dd2 I'll be dead from coughing before Intel does a release properly. They could at LEAST fake some benchmarks!
  2. I'm sorry, but did you see how he referred to his source.'Now a chap has claimed online that overall performance for the Pentium D XE is poorer with HT turned on for this chip than when two separate CPUs are used.'I think I'll wait to see some actual benchmarks.
  3. There ARE benchmarks:http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1
81863,00.aspIt actually underperforms in some aspects.
  4. I would make clear that people are always welcome to argue with anything that's reported, but do try to find some backup. In this case, it looks like the hunch was correct.
