All BT customers to get 2Mb connections

UK BT customers will get a welcome bandwidth increase tomorrow when BT upgrades all customers to 2Mb connections. The new 2Mb package will not cost anything extra for current or future customers, and will become the standard. However, BT believes that in the future, the ISP battleground will not be fought over price and speed as it is today, rather it will be fought over services.

BT group managing director Gavin Patterson said: "Today's announcement creates a standard of a minimum broadband speed of 2Mb for all our retail broadband services - these higher speeds open up a wealth of new possibilities for the use of broadband."
