After receiving 40 complaints in the US over adaptors growing dangerously hot with several even melting, Sony has been forced to recall 3.5 million power adaptors for the PS2. Something in the region of two thirds of the PS2 units made between August 2004 and December 2004 potentially have this problem.

Replacement adaptors will be issued and gamers have been asked to check the model number on the back of their consoles. Model numbers SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004 could be affected by the fault. People who think they may own one of the adaptors in question should go to www.ps2ac.com for further advice.
