With Intel bringing the heat in the form of Dual-Core Xeons and a 3.8Ghz single core Xeon, AMD is making steps to keep comparable products in the market. They now [url=http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/09/26/amd_speeds_opterons/[have made available[/url] the Dual-Core Opteron 280 and the Dual-Core Opteron 880, both running at 2.4Ghz, a screaming speed for these high performing chips. There is also a 180 variant designed for high end single CPU workstations as well, and they will be available at large within a month from now. The prices are definitely not for the feint of heart with the 180 coming in at $799 and the 880 being well over $2000, but these are workhorse cpus designed for the high end.
