Google claims to be King

Google claims that it is king of the Internet search sites, and that’s that! On the seventh birthday of the company, it claims that its search engines scour three times more Web sites than Yahoo Inc. and other nearest competitors. However, it can be difficult to compare the size of search engines' indexes of Web sites, with many duplicates and inaccuracies cropping up.

Google, which made the claim late Monday, said it now plans to stop publicly disclosing the size of its Web index, which it once said topped 8 billion, because of growing dissatisfaction over the accuracy of the statistic.
Google is not the only one making extravagant claims - rival Yahoo said its search engine scours 19 billion Web pages, meaning it would be the largest.
