ASUS has announced the release of one of the first 975 based motherboards on the market, the P5WDG2-WS. Designed for Pentium 4 D and P4 EE processors, it is a high-end workstation motherboard designed for both high performance and room for quiet cooling. It can use some extreme hardware, with support for up to 8GB of DDR2-800, the fastest RAM available on the market to date, with almost no boards being capable of those speeds. It is a Crossfire-compatible board, so no nVidia SLI, but as ATI continues to improve Crossfire it becomes more attractive. It also features a whopping 8 SATA-II connectors, and the typical standard features we see on modern boards. The motherboard does not require active cooling, and also supports 8-phase power, an important aspect for both newer CPUs and overclockers. For full details check out the price release.
