One of the most important events in modern history surrounding the development of the phone system was the forced breakup of Bell decades ago. Things are starting to come full circle as more companies are consolidating, a strange site to see, but one that makes financial sense for a lot companies. AT&T will be purchasing BellSouth for around $67 Billion, although not in cash. The result will be a single teleco that has 317,000 employees, making it the largest in the U.S. Interesting stuff.
