High-definition DVD launch party

The High-definition DVD format got its own little launch party as HD-DVD players and software went on sale. Best Buy and other select retailers are carrying them, although currently, only three movies are available. Wal-Mart has begun selling the cheaper of the two Toshiba players, the HD-D1.

Toshiba is in the process of shipping about 10,000 players to retailers. There have been positive reviews for this company's HD DVD offerings, with supplies selling out fast.

Reports across the US are that the first shipments of Toshiba's premiere, entry-level HD-A1 HD DVD player are nearly sold out at major retail outlets such as Best Buy, with the likelihood of replenishment maybe several weeks away.

  3. A friend and I dismantled Toshiba's new HD-A1 player in order to find out what made it tick, and were intrigued to learn that inside the HD-DVD drive is a standard IDE unit. Also inside is a USB flash drive on a daughter card:[url]http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/archive/2006/04/2

They put a *REMOVABLE* USB drive in the machine and an HD-DVD drive. All that only for this price? It makes cheap computer parts!A GB of RAM and an HD-DVD IDE drive alone would cost more money.
