A teenager in Hong Kong is in hot water right now – he has been arrested for setting up a website offering free music downloads. According to Police, the 16 year old has been arrested for Internet piracy, and was later released on bail. His arrest was the result of Customs officers conducting an investigation after being given a tip off by a music company, who claim they were the victim of the copyright infringement. Yesterday, the Anti-Internet Piracy Team raided the kid’s home, and took his personal computer. On it they claim to have found more than 600 pirated songs, and more than 20 pirated movies.

Following on from the arrest, customs officials are appealing to Internet users not to get themselves into the same trouble through their piracy and illegal sharing of songs and movies. They ask that people respect intellectual property rights and remain on the right side of the law.

how do these people get caught so easily when there are probably hundreds more who have thousands of songs?

He got caught because he was running a site that distributed the media, not because he merely downloaded it for his own use.
