Record numbers of British adults are looking at porn on the Internet. A study, conducted by Nielsen NetRatings for the Independent on Sunday newspaper, has found that one in four men aged 25 to 49 have visited an adult Web site in the last month alone. In fact, one in four adults, including 1.6 million women, are downloading porn images each month. Nine million men, almost 40% of Britain's male population, used pornographic Web sites last year.

Both men and women spend an average 40 minutes each month looking at pornographic Web sites, with many couples watching downloaded porn together. Interestingly enough, relationship agencies have claimed that they have seen a rise in the number of couples attributing their problems to their use of pornography on the Net. Additionally, the research found that more than half of all children have encountered pornography on the Internet while looking for something else, which adds weight to the idea that we need some kind of segregation of porn on the Net, like the proposed and rejected .xxx top level domain.
