AMD to discontinue Opteron 140 series on 939

The very popular Socket 939 Opteron, loved for its performance and price point, will soon be discontinued by AMD. While this was known somewhat in advance, AMD has now made official the change in availability, which will result in the 140 series of Opterons no longer being produced. For the next six months, things will continue as normal for the ordering of them, but after March of next year no more orders can be placed. AMD most likely, as they claim, will halt manufacture of these CPUs, and eventually inventory levels will run out. If you have considered getting these CPUs before, you might want to pick them up soon.
